Since receiving the "Steam to Green" brief I now have a general idea of which direction I want to take the piece musically. The themes surrounding the brief constructs an image in my mind of an old steam train passing through a picturesque valley, perhaps somewhere in the Scottish Highlands. At the beginning of this week I saw James Taylor live at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow. I have been a fan for a long time and he has no doubt had some influence in my songwriting already, however with the brief on my mind I couldn't help but be inspired by some of his works. Songs like "Carolina in my mind" really resonate with me, the lyrics and the music paint a warm and colourful picture of a lush landscape that transports me straight to the foothills of the Smoky Mountains.
I want to create this type of imagery in my song, for there to be an element of nature, and instead of Carolina I want to transport the listener into the heart of the Scottish Highlands. I have a few ideas on the guitar already which I hope to develop throughout the week...
