Hopefully you can now see how the structure has taken shape from the finished lyrics. I centred the entire song around "The Mountain," used as a metaphor for our world and environment but also to localise the song to a fixed point. As such this became the title of my song.
The Mountain
The seed of an empire he held in his hands
He cared for and watched it grow
And when the fruit ripened
It fell and it rolled
Further than any had before
And now over the mountain we go
Now we work and we build and we transform the land
Grow bigger and stronger each day
And the train sings a song
As it trundles along
And the hills they watch on in dismay
As the mountain sees the train on its way
She gave us our wealth and our food and our home
And she asked but for nothing in return
And while she's still pretty she is sore and worn
Her tears crash down in the storm
I hope the mountain's still green when I'm gone
Now the seed has served many
And i cherish her so
But she's buried to deep i am told
So lets take the burden from the mountains arms
And let the new seed grow
And the mountain can breathe once more
The Mountain
The seed of an empire he held in his hands
He cared for and watched it grow
And when the fruit ripened
It fell and it rolled
Further than any had before
And now over the mountain we go
Now we work and we build and we transform the land
Grow bigger and stronger each day
And the train sings a song
As it trundles along
And the hills they watch on in dismay
As the mountain sees the train on its way
She gave us our wealth and our food and our home
And she asked but for nothing in return
And while she's still pretty she is sore and worn
Her tears crash down in the storm
I hope the mountain's still green when I'm gone
Now the seed has served many
And i cherish her so
But she's buried to deep i am told
So lets take the burden from the mountains arms
And let the new seed grow
And the mountain can breathe once more
